Fr. Szczepan Praskiewicz OCD, relator in the beatification process of the Servant of God Fr. Esteban Gumucio, announced that on October 23, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., a Congress of Theologians on the heroic virtues of Fr. Esteban will be held at the headquarters of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints in Rome.
The Congress of Theologian Consultors is an important stage in the beatification process, in which theologians evaluate the materials collected in the "Positio" about the candidate for the altars and decide whether the evidence collected is sufficient to recognize the heroism of his virtues.
The Congress of Theologians consists of several stages:

Preparation of a written opinion: Each theologian-consultor prepares a written opinion on the Cause.

Session of the Congress: Theologians meet in session under the chairmanship of the Promoter of the Faith to discuss the evidence gathered and reach a verdict.

Voting: After discussion, theologians vote on a motion concerning the heroic virtues or other aspects of the life of the person concerned.

Evaluation and next steps: If the vote is positive, the Cause passes to the Cardinals and Bishops, members of the Dicastery, and then to the Holy Father.
