Useful in a networked world

On the afternoon of September 12th, Maria Centofanti and Fernando Cordero spoke to the capitulants about the work carried out in the General Secretariat, which also includes the area of Communications. Maria stressed that we like to “be useful” to the General Government, the Postulator General, and the Commission of Spiritual and Historical Heritage, among many other tasks. These tasks are varied and range from writing and editing volumes of documents and minutes; to responding to emails that are sent from or arrive into the Secretariat; dealing with the Communications Centre; and the Secular Branch. In addition, the Secretariat manages the data and dossiers of the ss.cc. brothers; the management of the members of the Secular Branch; the management of the website; and our social media networks. Maria also offered some practical information to be considered in order to know what type of information should reach the Secretariat.

Fernando focused on communication in a changing world. The Secretariat wants to be able to respond to this challenge with communications that help us to grow in fraternity, networked so to speak, that is, interdependent. He analysed the current state of communications, against the backdrop of the Synod, and used the philosopher Byung-Chul Han to contextualise our digital communication environment. He also encouraged us to continue building networks in the Congregation, using communication tools.
