“No more will the sun give you light by day, nor the
moon shine on you by night. for Yahweh will be
your everlasting light and your God will be your glory”
(Is. 60:19)
Águeda (Inés Encarnación) VILLORÍA SÁNCHEZ, died on the morning of the 12th January, 2008 in Torrelavaga. She was born on the 14th November, 1902 in Ubiarco (Cantabria). She was the daughter of Manuel and Catalina. She was loved by her family and it was there that she learned how to be a Christian.
She made her novitiate in Paris where she made profession on the 11th February, 1931, and for 77 years was a religious of the SS.CC. She lived and spread the charism in France, Ireland-England, Italy and Spain. Her last 22 years were spent in the community in Torrelavega. Throughout her long life, she carried out many tasks, but above all she was a woman consecrated to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary with the ministry of adorer.
We can say that Aqueda left us a beautiful witness of a life lived in the love of God, the Congregation and the Church. Until the end of her days, she was a good advisor on most matters, especially on how to live out the Following of Jesus and how to be better religious of the SS.CC. She expressed her wisdom with clarity, gentleness and a contagious joy. Agueda showed us that it is possible to weave friendship through self giving and simple service; in accepting the differences in age and mentality; in being interested in everyone and everything and above all in the continual contemplation of the God of life.
During her final years she talked naturally and spontaneously about her desire to be with the Lord. She felt the fullness of love in the communion of saints, the joy of meeting all those she knew and loved during her pilgrimage on earth. She is there now and continues to follow us with her mischievous smile from the splendor of Heaven.
We celebrated her funeral in the school chapel, accompanied by her family, teachers, friends and sisters of other communities. We felt the closeness expressed by sisters in the different places where Agueda lived, who were present through prayer, mother general, the sisters of France, Ireland – England…
Let us pray to the Lord that her absence will be replaced by many blessings for the SS.CC. Congregation which she loved so much and to which she gave herself.
