   Fr. Ambrose Robert Forgit, sscc, an ordained member of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SSCC) in Fairhaven, Massachusetts passed away in Boston on Monday, June 14, 2010 after a brief illness. Fr. Ambrose, who would have been 85 years old on September 30th, was the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Wellington) Forgit. He is survived by two brothers, Lester and Raymond and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was also the brother of the late Arthur Forgit

   Born in Thompson, Connecticut, Fr. Ambrose attended Leicester, Massachusetts High School. He entered the US Air Force in 1943 and was awarded the bronze star before his honorable discharge in 1945. He entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in 1949 and was ordained a priest in Jaffrey, New Hampshire on June 17, 1955.
 
   During his 55 years as priest, Fr. Ambrose served his Church and his Community in many capacities. For eight years he was the Secretary/Treasurer for the USA East Province. Later he served as Assistant Pastor at several parishes on Cape Cod and in Puerto Rico before becoming pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in New Bedford in 1970 and from 1974 to 1979 Pastor at St. Joseph’s Parish in Fairhaven. He also was appointed pastor at Queen of Peace Parish in Harlingen, Texas and at Our Lady of the Angels in La Joya, Texas. Although he retired to Damien Residence in Fairhaven in early 2002, he continued to serve the Diocese of Fall River as the Chaplain at Our Lady’s Haven Nursing Home in Fairhaven. 
 
   Fr. Ambrose loved gardening and enjoyed traveling, especially the annual trips with his family to Costa Rica where he continued to sponsor six Costa Rican children through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA).   
 
   A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven, Massachusetts on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 11:00 AM followed by burial in the Sacred Hearts Community Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place at Damien Residence in Fairhaven on Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
