Max was born in Velp on March 24, 1919. He took his religious vows in Bavel on October 27. He was ordained a priest in Valkenburg on August 4, 1946.
After his ordination, Max went to Indonesia and started to work in Bangka, part of the diocese of Pangkalpinang. His first task was the study of Hakka, a Chinese language, widely spoken in the diocese. It was a task that he completed in two years time, very conscientiously. Then he worked in the pastoral and education, especially among the Chinese population of Bangka, Belitung and the Riau Archipelago. The longest time he was the beloved pastor of the parish of Sungailiat on Bangka.
He has been a member of the pastoral council of the diocese and was assistant vice-provincial for six years.
In June 1997 Max finally returned to the Netherlands. He took up residence in the community in Bavel. In June 2006 he moved to the home for old religious people Regina Pacis in Tilburg. In June 2009 he took up residence in ‘Zuiderhout’ in Teteringen. There he deceased in peace on August 31, 2010.
