† Fr. Jan van HATTUM sscc (Holland)

Jan was born in Breukelen on October 9, 1920. He took his monastic vows in Bavel on September 25, 1941. He was ordained a priest in Broekhem in Valkenburg, on March 1, 1947.

In 1948 he started his missionary work in Brazil. He was nine years teaching at the college in Araguari, three years later at the seminary of São Bonifácio. He worked longer or shorter time in many parishes in Brazil.

After forty years in Brazil, he finally returned to the Netherlands. Being a member of the community in Sint Oedenrode for a few years he was the spiritual leader of pilgrimages to Hakendover (Belgium) and Medjugorje (Bosnia). In 1991 he became resident priest at the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary sisters in Weiteveen.

In 1995 he joined the community in Bavel. After an unfortunate fall, he moved to the monastery for old religious people ‘Johannes Zwijsen’ in Tilburg, where after an illness of nine years he died on April 1, 2010.
