World Day of the Poor (Sisters)

On 14 November the 5th World Day of the Poor took place in the Diocesan Seminary of Madrid (Spain). This year's theme was: "You have the poor with you always" (Mk 14:7).

It began with a talk by Xabier Gómez, director of the Migration Department of the Episcopal Conference, on the theme: "Challenges from the culture of encounter and human rights for human mobility".

This was followed by a panel of experiences of welcome, encounter and hospitality, in which our sister Nuria Lobo, ss.cc. participated. In her sharing, Nuria explained the basis of the "TODO Project", which welcomes young migrants in exile in their communities.

It is a simple project that is very manageable for us, without big structures, done with others and for others.... It is true that it is not without its difficulties, but at the same time it is a project in which we can share what we are and what we have, on a daily basis. It is a way of going out of ourselves, of welcoming, listening, accompanying, reorganising, learning... in which the young women, who have already experienced the worst of what it is to migrate, only want something as basic as the respect of being women who want to continue training in order to have their own future.
