Brazil-Paraguay Assembly

From 19 - 22 April, the brothers of the Province of Brazil and Region of Paraguay met in assembly at the Retiro das Rosas (Salesianas) in Cachoeira do Campo, Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais. Present were all the brothers of Brazil (in good health) and Gustavo van Humbeeck (regional bursar) and Vitor Borges, who are resident in Paraguay.

This was the first time since the elections of 2021 that the provincial government was able to be together because of the pandemic.

These were fruitful days of prayer, exchanges, meetings and joy. The main themes were Initial Formation and the challenges of the growing number of young people with vocations and their accompaniment in spite of the reality of the CIAL. The economes of the Province and the Region presented the accounts for 2021.

The Vice Postulator also presented the accounts and a report of the activities related to the process of Fr Eustaquio. One afternoon was devoted to the study of the historical and ecclesial circumstances of our "family of martyrs” that have been present since since the foundation of the Congregation, in particular the martyrs of Paris. Another relevant topic was the life of the local communities, their ability to support themselves financially, community life, missionary challenges after the pandemic in parish ministry and social works.

The assembly listened with enthusiasm to the reports of the new presence - in communion with our sisters - in parishes situated in areas of extreme economic and pastoral need. At the end, announcements were made regarding the forthcoming ordinations to the priesthood and diaconate. For one afternoon the assembly was joined by the Brazilian postulants and pre-novices. A great celebration of community life and hope in the octave of Easter. Health and Peace!
