New Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Poland (Brs)

Over the past three years there has been a major renovation of the house of the Congregation in Polanica-Zdrój (Sokolówka). The changes facilitate the community of the brothers, the novitiate of the province and groups coming for retreats and pastoral get-togethers.

Recently the local ordinary, Bishop Ignacy Dec (Diocese of Swidnicka), decided to set up in the house a shrine dedicated to our Lady of Fatima (Portugal) on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the apparitions.

The inauguration of the shrine took place on Saturday May 6th presided by the Bishop and in the presence of many priests from surrounding parishes, religious, brothers of the Polish Province and also the Superior General, Javier Álvarez Ossorio and Raja Sebastian (the Econome General) who has come to Poland from Rome for the meetings of the Conference of Europe and Africa that will take place this coming week in Poland.

The Provincial Piotr Budrewicz read the decree of erection of the shrine. The Superior of the community of Polanica, Radoslaw Ziezio, greeted all presents and the recently-named rector of the shrine Zdzislaw Swiniarski offered a special prayer before the image of Mary. The Superior General also greeted the gathering and thanked the Bishop for placing the shrine dedicated to Mary in one of our houses.

The event drew the attention of many media outlets and was transmitted directly by Internet. Watch it on the following link (the General’s remarks occur at 32:24):
