First profession of Daniel Estrada and John Sawchenko in Hawaii (Brs)

On Saturday 2 August, Daniel Estrada and John Sawchenko made their First Profession in Saint Patrick Church-Honolulu during a Eucharist celebration presided by Fr Johnathan Hurrell that began at 10 am.

Sr. Regina Mary Jenkins, Sisters Provincial Superior, was present as the witness for the professions. Also present during the ceremony were Fr. Patrick Fanning (Novice Master), Br. Richard Kupo (sosius), and Fr. Bob Charlton who delivered the homily.

The Gospel spoke of the Beheading of John the Baptist, and Fr Bob Charlton referenced this to Brothers John and Daniel's novitiate period, a time of testing and resolve, of openness and courage.

The rites of Temporary Profession spoke for themselves and allowed the Spirit to not only hold the two newly professed in the cradle of Her arms, but also hold us all in an instance of 'thanksgiving' as we rejoice in new life for the Province and the Congregation.

One of the more poignant moments was having the SSCC brothers and sisters around the altar receiving the new brothers with arms reaching out in embrace, which for all those present symbolized the reality of our SSCC family. It impressed on the families and friends gathered that their sons are joining a family who will care for them, support them, challenge them and ultimately love them.

It was truly a great day for the Province. We continue to humbly resolve ourselves again to follow Jesus more closely and to imitate our beloved Mother Mary more boldly.
