New Provincial Superior of Chile (Brs)

On Monday, June 12, René Cabezón sscc was elected SS.CC Provincial Superior for a six year term, 2017-2023. The election took place in the Provincial House in Santiago.  He was chosen by the electoral college, made up of 12 brothers chosen by all the religious of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, plus the Provincial.

The Statutes of the Province establish that the Provincial Superior is elected by all the brothers of the Province in two ballots. In the event that no brother obtains an absolute majority (as happened in this election), it is the so-called "electoral college" that chooses the Provincial.

The election has been ratified by the Superior General, Javier Álvarez Ossorio. Alex Vigueras ss.cc., current Provincial, will leave his post next September 30.

The Provincial-elected, René Cabezón Yáñez was born on September 8, 1960 in Valparaiso. He did primary and middle at the SSCC school in that city. He then entered the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, where he professed his perpetual vows on March 2, 1985. He was ordained a priest on December 15, 1990, sharing his silver jubilee with us in 2016.

He currently serves as parish priest in San Pedro and San Pablo. This is where the memorial to Father Esteban Gumucio sscc is located and where there is the night shelter for street people, founded by Fr. Rene 6 years ago and named for Father Esteban. Father Rene is chaplain of the Fire Brigade of Valparaiso and voluntary fireman since 1979, in the 5th company Pompe France.

Rene we thank you for your availability for  this service and wish you  the best for the governance  of the Chilean-Argentine province.
