On Sunday, May 4, over 300 people gathered to commemorate the passing of the Servant of God Esteban Gumucio sscc at the parish of Saints Peter and Paul in Santiago, Chile. The celebration included a moving Eucharist presided over by Bishop Álvaro Chordi, who highlighted Father Esteban’s prophetic spirit, humble faith, and closeness to the people, urging new generations to become “prophets of hope.”
The ceremony featured the blessing of the newly renovated church and Father Esteban’s Memorial, thanks to the support of the Silva Bascuñán Foundation, the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts, and the parish community. Holy water was distributed to the faithful as a sign of extending the church’s blessing to their homes.
Prayers were offered for the sick, for those involved in the renovation, and for the future of the Church. A prayer chain was also launched for the election of the new Pope and the continuation of the synodal path initiated by Pope Francis. Father Esteban’s life and witness remain a living source of faith, commitment, and hope for Chile.
