The publishing house Dykinson has published the book Gender and Christianity in the 21st Century. Gender identity, gender expression and gender role, edited by Francisco Javier de la Torre Díaz. This is a collective work that brings together contributions from twenty international researchers to reflect, from both a scientific and theological perspective, on one of the most relevant and debated issues of our time.
Among the contributing authors is our brother Fernando Bueno sscc, from the Iberian Province, who contributes the chapter entitled “Accompanying to love. Accompaniment in educational contexts”. His contribution offers a reflection on the importance of educational accompaniment as a privileged space for personal growth, discernment, and the welcoming of diversity, inspired by the Gospel and the educational tradition of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.
The book has a strong ecumenical character and brings together Catholic, Anglican, Evangelical, and Lutheran voices. Its authors include theologians, philosophers, psychologists, physicians, engineers, and educators, as well as members of various religious congregations and many lay people, all committed to a rigorous and dialogical reflection on contemporary challenges.
As the presentation of the book highlights, gender today represents both a space of encounter and tension between different understandings of the human person and society. In the face of current polarizations, the book offers experiences and reflections that help to think more deeply about the contributions that the Christian faith can offer in this field.
