On Thursday, 26th August, a remodeled sculpture of Fr. Jorge Dintilhac ss.cc. was formally unveiled. Fr. Jorge (1878-1947) was a priest of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts and founder of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 1917. The PUCP functioned for a long time in the premises of the Recoleta School located in the current Plaza Francia, and Father Dintilhac was its first rector until 1947. The bronze sculpture is the work of the Peruvian sculptor Joaquín Roca Rey (1960) and in 2018 it was declared a cultural heritage of the Peruvian nation. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Jorge Muñoz, Mayor of Lima, who situated this initiative in the context of the master plan for restoring the historic centre of Lima, which includes the remodeling of the facades of the Convent and the Parish of Recoleta. Raúl Pariamachi ss.cc. (Provincial) and Brian Cruz ss.cc. (Parish priest) represented the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts.
