Canonical visit to the Andean Province

From 1 March to 20 April, the canonical visit to the Andean Province took place. Enrique Ramírez sscc and Jean Blaise Mwanda sscc visited and spoke with each brother in the Province’s three zones: Colombia-Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Peru.

They presented their report in person to some brothers in the Peru zone and via videoconference to the brothers in the Colombia, Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Chachapoyas zones. The visitors met with a total of 40 brothers, 9 communities and 17 ministries. Where possible, they paid a fraternal visit to some communities of the SSCC Sisters and members of the Secular Branch.

In the report, they emphasised that changes are needed in certain key areas such as: leadership, mission, finances, formation, the focus on young people, and vocational culture. We particularly appreciate the effort to promote interdependence and communion between the zones, as well as openness to processes of common discernment.

However, they highlighted the need to strengthen the effective integration of the province as a single body, moving beyond dynamics that are still centred on the local or zonal level. There is an urgent need to translate the proposed guidelines into more specific actions, particularly regarding the mobility of the brothers, the planning of the common mission, and the values of religious life.
