For the Region of India, 2020 saw the start of an extended community of the Damien Social Development Institute (DSDI), Phulnakhara to be based in Coundrine Chatrabas (Boys' Hostel), Choudwar, Odisha, India
The spirit behind establishing a community in the Hostel is manifold: to provide better management of the hostel, to care for the spiritual needs of the Catholic boys in the hostel and the Catholics living around it; to explore the possibilities and scope of ministries. Also, to address certain issues related to Trinath Colony (a leprosy settlement and rehabilitation by the Congregation) and to deal with the formal and non-formal education of the children in the colony and finally to oversee the cultivation and maximum use of land and property on the hostel campus. Fr. Tileshwar Nayak sscc has been assigned to begin this work.
