Secular Branch (Colombia)

On May 22nd, in the parish of San Antonio de Padua in the municipality of Mosquera in Colombia, we celebrated with great joy the promises of eleven committed lay people who became members of the secular branch of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SSCC) in Colombia. This festivity was attended by family members, members of the parish community, and brothers and sisters of the SSCC Congregation. The promises pronounced by the lay people were received by Father Hilvar Loyaga, provincial superior of the Andina province.

This moving celebration shows us how, even in these times when society wants to move away from the love of God, there are people who let their hearts be filled with the love of the Father.  Eleven people this day said “Yes” to committing their daily lives to embracing service by joining the mission of the SSCC Congregation. In this way they have taken on the mission to contemplate, live and announce to the world the Love of God incarnated in Jesus, from their families, their work, their community and society.

What a beautiful example this group of lay people is who invite us to let our hearts be moulded by the love of God and to live in a ongoing relationship with Jesus through his word, prayer, contemplation, intercession, adoration, the Eucharist and service to the poorest and neediest.

It is necessary that we pray for more lay vocations in our church so that the Holy Spirit may be poured into hearts and dispel the fears and doubts that prevent us to take firm steps in the love of God.  In our prayers, we entrust the SSCC Congregation to each of its members - priests, sisters and laity - so that the Holy Spirit of God may continue to blow strongly and that they may always be heralds of peace.
