Nicolás Viel González sscc, of the Province of Chile, has been appointed the Catholic chaplain of the Palace of La Moneda, the official residence of the president, currently Gabriel Boric. The announcement was made by the government on May 24. Cardinal Celestino Aós appointed Nicolás, who will join the chaplaincies of other Christian churches and religions present in the country.
As a religious of the Sacred Hearts, Nicolás said he was very happy with this pastoral challenge: "I thank the Archbishop of Santiago for this pastoral task that he has entrusted to me and the government authorities for proposing me for this role. I hope to develop this service in community and dialogue with the Lutheran chaplain and evangelical chaplain already assigned. As believers, our role will always be one of dialogue, caring for the person and sowing hope", said Nicolás.
The newly appointed chaplain is a member of the religious community located in the commune of San Joaquín, within the the parish of Damien de Molokai, which is under the pastoral care of the Sacred Hearts. According to his provincial, René Cabezón ss.cc. Nicolás will continue to fulfil his commitments both in the capital and in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
