From 25-30 May, celebrations are taking place in Paris to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the martyrdom of the victims of the Paris Commune, including our own brothers: Lasislas Radigue, Marcellin Rouchouze, Polycarpe Tuffier and Frèzal Tardieu. Many events have been organised that are taking place in churches and places related to the events of 1871, as well as in Picpus and in the Church of Notre Dame de la Salette. In these last two places one finds the mortal remains of the five Servants of God, whose beatification process is coming to an end.
Due to problems with his residency documentation, the General Superior, Fr. Alberto Toutin, was unable to get to Paris, and so the Generalate Communities in Rome were represented by Goyi Marin, General Councilor of the Sisters and Andrzej Lukawski, General Postulator. Eric Hernout, General Archivist, will arrive at Picpus on Saturday, 29 May.
In the days leading up to the jubilee celebrations, Fr. Andrzej had several meetings with Fr. Bernard Couronne, vice-postulator for the causes of the beatification of the "Martyrs of Picpus" and the Good Father, and with the Superior of the French Province, Fr. Christian Flotte. The meetings were able to take place thanks to the excellent service of Fr. Remi Liando as translator. They centred around the current state of the causes and preparations for the possible beatification of our "Martyrs" that may take place in the very near future. We should know the final decisions regarding the beatification later this year.
A prelude to the jubilee celebrations was a courtesy meeting with the Archbishop of Paris - Mons. Michel Aupetit on Tuesday, 25 May, who had invited our Confreres to dinner at the Archbishop's Palace. On the part of the Congregation, attending were Fr. Christian Flotte, Fr. Bernard Couronne and fr. Andrzej Lukawski. Representing the Archdiocese, apart from the Archbishop, was the Chancellor of the Paris Curia, Fr. Jean-Marie Dubois who is responsible for promoting the canonization causes in the Archdiocese.
