Commission coordinating the preparations for the beatification (France)

The beatification of the Martyrs who were shot in Paris in 1871 is fast approaching. At the meeting of the Commission coordinating the preparations for the beatification, which took place in Paris on 15 February and brought together 15 people, the progress of work in all areas related to the organization of the ceremony, i.e. logistics, security, communication, liturgy and music, was discussed.

So far, it is anticipated that about 1,000 people will participate in the beatification. This number may increase with some several hundred people coming from Parisian parishes.

The President of the Commission, Fr. Gilles Morin, Superior of the French Province of the Religious of St. Vincent de Paul, informed the commission about the letter of the Archbishop of Paris, Mgr. Laurent Ulrich, that had been circulated, the day before, to the priests and deacons of the Archdiocese of Paris. In the letter he writes, among other things, about the upcoming beatification of the Martyrs of 1871 in the following words:

"Still bathed in the light of Easter we look forward to celebrating the beatification of five priests who were martyred in Paris in 1871. The beatification will take place on Saturday, 22 April 22, at 4.00 p.m.,  in the church of Saint-Sulpice, Paris.  Our brothers Henri Planchat, a religious of Saint Vincent de Paul, Ladislas Radigue, Polycarpe Tuffier, Marcellin Rouchouze and Frézal-Tardieu, religious of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, witnessed to their love and fidelity to Christ to the point of giving their lives. They are an example and a model for us, and it is a great joy to invite you to participate with me in this celebration which will be presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints".

The next meeting of the Commission will take place in Paris on Tuesday 7 March.
