Jubilee Celebration (Hawaii)

Sisters, brothers, family and friends gathered on June 11, 2022 to celebrate the jubilarians of the brothers' U.S. Province and the sisters' Territory of Pacific U.S.A. The nine jubilarians honored represented 490 years of religious profession.

It was a lusterous celebration of three platinum, three diamond, one golden and two silver jubilees. Platinum (70) jubilarians are Fr. Columban Crotty, Sr. Damien Therese Dang, and Sr. Angela Gregorio. Diamond (60) jubilarians include Fr. James McDonough, Fr. William Petrie and Sr. Rose Henry Reeves. The sole golden (50) jubilarian is Fr. Robert Charlton. Our silver (25) jubilarians are Fr. Sudhir Nayak and Fr. Santhosh Thottankara. Three of the jubilarians, Frs. Columban, Robert and Suhir were unable to attend.

The celebration began with a 9:30 am mass at St. Patrick Church in Kaimuki at which our Provincial Superior, the Very Rev. Lane Akiona, ss.cc. presided. Fr. Ed Popish, ss.cc. was invited to preach the homily. After the homily the six jubilarians present renewed their perpetual vows. The celebration continued at the Pagoda Hotel in Honolulu with a meal, music and hula.

We rejoice in the lord, thanking God for the gift of these nine men and women to enter the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. Inspired by the story of St. Damien, personal contact with an ss.cc. brother, sister or priest, or our missionary spirit, they were led along diverse paths by the holy spirit to enter the Congregation. They have ministere as teachers, chaplains, musicians, pastors, congrgation leaders, and religious formators. Missioned in India, Japan, the Philippines and the USA, each one has generously shared the unique gifts that God has given them in service to the people of God and the Congregation.

We thank God for the example of their steadfast commitment and we celebrate the great things the Mighty One has done and continues to do for them and through them.
